American Eskimo Dog

Call them White Spitzes if you will, the American Eskimo Dog usually goes by the nickname of "Eskie" (or on occasion "Peskie"). They were called German Spitzes until 1917, when the breed was renamed. Actually the term "Spitz" refers to a group of dogs with curly tails and erect ears. Eskies are very smart and will get bored easily unless you keep them occupied. Think twice before letting them near your birds or gerbils, or they will find ways to entertain themselves. Eskies are very easy to recognize, being small (up to 30 lbs), white, and having thick, fluffy coats and tails. There are toy versions that weigh less than 10 lbs. Despite their size, they are rugged, and enjoy wrestling and hiking. They will not appreciate Gucci collars.
