Bichon Frise

"Bichon Frise" means "curly haired lap dog" in French. These dogs are cousins to the Poodle and Maltese, and like most curly-haired dogs were bred to swim. Coming from the Canary Islands to France and Italy during the Renaissance, this little dog soon became a favorite pet with French Royalty. Bichons do not shed, and their naturally curly coat needs a lot of grooming attention to prevent matting and to get the "stuffed toy" look. They are affectionate and lively without being yappy. Bichons will get along with children and other pets if socialized properly. While they are good apartment dogs, they will need daily romps. Bichons come in one color: white, and usually weigh 10-18 lbs.
