Boston Terrier

One of the few truly American breeds, Boston Terriers were originally bred as fighting dogs in Boston, Massachusetts. Modern Boston Terriers have had their aggressiveness all but bred out of them. They are highly intelligent and well-behaved. They take to training well, but may need extra work with housebreaking. If you are looking for a dog to keep you company in a small apartment, this may be the right dog for you. Not only do they not need very much exercise, they can actually develop breathing problems from overexertion. Their erect ears make them look alert, which they are. Boston Terriers are sturdy and small, rarely weighing more than 25 lbs. They are black, seal (black with a reddish cast) or brindle with a white chest, forehead and snout.
