Belgian Shepherd Malinois

You can tell a lot from a name, and the Belgian Shepherd Malinois is no exception. The Malinois is one of the four Belgian herding dogs and is often compared to their more well-known cousins, the German Shepherds. There is some similarity in the overall build, erect ears, coat and tail. The Malinois is meant to guard and chase sheep, and needs a mission and training in order be a happy and well-adjusted member of your pack. They will be delighted if you take them to the agility course or jogging with you. A Malinois who is left alone all day long will quickly become bored and find something interesting to do. The coat is thick and fawm-colored, typically with dark ears and a black snout. Some black hairs are intermixed with the lighter fur. Malinois are medium to large dogs, weighing 60-80 lbs (males) or 40-60 lbs (females). They stand about 25" (males) or 23"(females).
