Chow Chow

Chows are not large dogs, they just seem that way because of their thick coat. They do well in colder climates and don't mind being outdoors in the middle of winter, but hot summers can be hard on them. If you are looking for info on Chows because your dog has black spots on his/her tongue, don't bother. One of the most stubborn myths about identifying mystery dogs is that black spots on the tongue mean that a dog is part Chow. Nothing could be further from the truth. Conversely, a purebred Chow does not necessarily have a blue-black tongue, although most do. Officially they come in five colors: cream, red, "cinammon" or "fawn" (mixture of tan and black hairs), "blue" and black.
