Golden RetrieverWho doesn't love a Golden? They make wonderful family pets, their coat is beautiful, and they are always ready to play. Wasn't it a Golden Retriever in the movie "Homeward Bound" who comforts a little girl lost in the mountains, despite the fact that he is trying to find his way back home with his bulldog and cat buddies? Goldens have a reputation for being non-aggressive and good with children and other pets, making them ideal family pets. However, there are good reasons NOT to have a Golden, as this list will tell you. As the name says, they are golden in color, meaning anywhere from light cream ("blonde") to a deep red ("redhead"). Full grown females usually weigh 50-65 lbs, males about 60-80 lbs. |

PuppiesGolden puppies are large, just like their parents, at least they are supposed to be. Tuscany and Sammy are big boys. Tuscany's female littermate weighed three lbs less at the same age. Shelby came from a puppy mill and will probably not weigh more than 45 lbs when full grown. Puppy ears are darker than the rest of the coat. As puppy grows, the coat darkens to the color of the ears. Tuscany does not have spots on his fur, those are mud speckles. |
