German Shepherd

It's no accident that police dogs and seeing eye dogs come to mind when we think of German Shepherds. Thanks to their intelligence, stamina, trainability and size, they are found in all of the Working Dog jobs: police dogs, seeing eye dogs, rescue dogs just to name a few. Celebrity GSDs include Rin Tin Tin in the US and Kommissar Rex in German-speaking Europe. The typical German Shepherd color is sable, a tan base with longer black hairs and a black saddle and snout, but GSDs can be almost completely black. Shadow and Colonel are examples of sable coloring, while Boss and KC are darker. White GSDs are considered a separate breed by the UKC and in several countries.
