Alaskan Malamute

Malamutes were bred to haul heavy sleds in the snow. Unlike Huskies, who get to haul the people, Malamutes get to haul the supplies. They are not the fastest sled dogs, but are arguably the strongest. They are big (80 lbs or more), solid, energetic, smart dogs, so if you are thinking of getting one, you will need a fenced-in yard, a powerful vacuum cleaner, and plenty of free time. Malamutes don't mind sleeping in a kennel, but your dog will find something to do if you do not keep him or her occupied. They are not the easiest dogs to train, and he/she may eliminate any smaller pets if you don't do it first. Malamutes can be all white or mantled white, grey, sable or red. Eyes can only be brown.
