Pekingese

Sometimes called the "lion dog", the Pekingese is an ancient Chinese breed. Only members of the imperial court were allowed to own these regal little dogs. Considering that they have such a luxurious coat, they do not shed much, but they do require frequent grooming. Pekes do not need very much exercise and do well in apartments. They are not recommended for families with small children, as they cannot take rough handling. Pekingese can be recognized by their long, flowing coats and flat faces. While they can weigh up to 14 lbs, the so-called "sleeve" Pekingese weighs no more than 6 lbs, while the "minis" weigh between 6-8 lbs. Pekes come in all colors.
