Pomeranian

If you are looking for a canine companion who won't expect you to provide vigorous exercise every day, a Pomeranian may be the dog for you. A Pom is content with a romp in a small yard or a short walk with you. This is not to say that they are lazy dogs; Pomeranians have been known to win ribbons at agility contests and they are pretty good at bringing frisbees back to you. Thanks to their low center of gravity they can easily balance on their hind legs. They will tire more easily than many dogs, and do not make the best hiking companions. Poms are friendly, and will be gracious towards your cat (although they might give strange cats a hard time). Teach them early not to bark at noises such as the doorbell or footsteps in the apartment above yours, or you could end up with a yappy dog. Pomeranians are easily recognized by their dense, fluffy fur. If you live somewhere where it gets hot, think about getting their fur cut for the summer. Poms are the smallest members of the Spitz family, typically weighing in at under 10 lbs. Typical colors are are red, orange, white or cream, blue, brown or black. Poms can also be parti-colored (white with colored markings), black-and-tan, or orange sable (orange with longer black hairs).
