Pug

Pugs are originally from China, and are considered to be authentic only if you can see part the Chinese character for "prince" (three horizontal slashes bound by one vertical slash) in the wrinkles on their forehead. Never mind that they were called "Dutch Mastiffs" in England after sailing ships brought these dogs to Europe. While they may resemble point-sized Mastiffs, there is no genetic connection between the two breeds. Pugs are smart, playful, affectionate dogs who do not need much exercise. They do not do well in the heat. Pugs can be recognized by the blunt snouts and corkscrew tails. They are small (12-20 lbs), and have the appearance of being very sturdy and muscular. Colors are apricot, fawn, black and silver, with a black muzzle.
