Rottweiler

The nickname for Rottweilers in German is "the butcher's dog." This is not, as you might think, because you have to be one in order to come up with enough food to feed one. Named for the town of Rottweil in Germany, they worked pulling the butchers' carts, and hung on to the money purse. Not many people would try to steal money from a Rottie! Rotties are large, muscular dogs, and although they are generally even-tempered, they need to be shown who is boss when they are small, especially the males. Once they get to be full-grown, correcting training mistakes becomes much harder. These dogs typically weigh between 90-125 lbs. Rottweilers are among the easiest breed to recognize with their black coat except for tan markings on paws, muzzle, belly, rear end, and "eyebrows".
