Schnauzer

If you pronounce "Schnauzer" the way German would ("shn-OUTCH-er") you will be almost saying the German word for "snout". However, if you pronounce "Schnäuzer" ("schn-OYTCH-er") you will be saying "moustache". Either way, it is easy to see where the Schnauzer got its name. The Schnauzer is a centuries-old German breed whose original mission was to hunt vermin. From this 30-40 lbs "standard Schnauzer" came both the miniature (11-18 lbs) and giant (75-90 lbs) Schnauzers. Angus is clearly a miniature Schnauzer. These dogs are non-shedding, so you will not find dog hair everywhere all the time, but on the other hand they need to be groomed once a week. Giant Schnauzers make good guard and police dogs, while the Standard and Miniature varieties are excellent companion dogs. All are somewhat territorial. Schnauzers can be recognized by their wiry coat and long whiskers at the snout. If the ears have been trimmed they stand erect, otherwise they have a soft fold. Colors are silver, salt-and-pepper or black.
