Whippet

Sometimes called the poor man's Greyhound, Whippets are small, elegant, and very fast dogs. They do look like Greys (except for their size) and are also members of the sighthound family. You will see them watching intently for something like a squirrel or a cat to chase, since they rely on their eyesight rather than their sense of smell. They are terribly sensitive doggies who may start to tremble if you scold them harshly. They have neither body fat nor thick fur to protect them from the cold, so they shiver when it gets below about 50 degrees Fahrenheit. They will actaully enjoy wearing doggy sweaters if you live somewhere cold, and don't even think of making him/her sleep outside. They have just about zero body fat, so they also appreciate a soft place to rest their bones. More than likely they will end up sleeping next to your feet on the bed. Whippets need at least 45 minutes of racing around at top speed (which for them is about 35 mph) so you will need to provide them with the opportunity to get the exercise they need. Just make sure they aren't able to take off after a squirrel who may cross his/her path and run out into the street, because your Whippet will chase first and think later. Whippets do not like being left alone. Whippets come in all colors and color combinations.
